Reproductive Rights

Reproductive rights in India are abysmally low. Child marriage is rampant, young girls are forced to leave their school as they have no proper toilet facilities in schools, there exists a whole hush-hush affair regarding menstrual health and hence about sexuality as a whole.

Women have little control over their bodies in a marriage, and have no say in planning of families. Pregnancy occurs accidentally and not planned, while the burden of family planning sterilisation lies with women.

From lack of abortion rights, as though legally provided there is total absence of services and social acceptance, there is a whole range of reproductive heath services which women never get. Daily we hear sexual violence stories and the government system is still not ready to either prevent such incidents nor provide services for the care and rehabilitation of such survivors.
